Airbags are intended to save lives, however drivers and passengers, including children, can suffer severe injuries and burns following a vehicle’s impact.
Airbag material can explode into an occupant’s face and chest, at extremely high speed, after a crash. Air bag burns, fractures, disfigurement can occur.
Gas fills the airbag, deployment occurs, then dust and chemicals may be released, deployment can also cause head, neck, eye and skin injuries.
I represented a 27 year old woman whose vehicle was hit by a negligent driver, who made an unsafe left turn in Phoenix. As a result of the collision my client’s airbag exploded, she suffered burns and injuries to her arm, that resulted in scarring, and treatment by a plastic surgeon. The extreme pain and initial appearance of the burn injuries were very traumatic. The residual scar was extremely upsetting to her, it was a continuing reminder of the crash.
As a result of the other driver’s negligence my client received compensation from his insurance company for her permanent injuries caused by the wreck and the airbag deployment.
