Another Arizona Wrong-Way Crash and Fatality

The February 5, 2015 blog addressed the frequency and alarming nature of wrong-way crashes, injuries and fatalities in the Valley.

Recently, a Phoenix Fire Department dispatcher, Megan Lange, died when her vehicle was hit by a wrong-way driver on I-17. Ms. Lane was driving home after her shift, she was a mother of two sons.

The loss is extremely tragic and profound, especially given Ms. Lange’s professionalism, and her record of helping the public, and saving lives.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reports that it has set up larger and lowered wrong-way signs along off-ramps at Valley interchanges on I-10, I-17, and Loop 101. Additional interchanges are being targeted, and priority locations are being determined. ADOT confirms that impaired drivers present an obvious challenge.

Hopefully the changes are helpful, however the losses to the Lange family and the community are irreplaceable, just read the words and tribute of Melissa’s sister-in-law, Heather Lange
